Q&A: What is the most economic and organic way to cloth diaper your baby?

Question by Shelly: What is the most economic and organic way to cloth diaper your baby?
I want to cloth diaper full time, but we are on a very tight budget and I need to know which cloth diapers are the cheapest and where to buy them. Does anybody know? I want to go all-organic if possible. Where can I buy the cheapest yet most natural cloth diapering supplies?

I went to diapers.com if you want to check out there packages and use the promo code BABYSALE you can get 10.00 off your order I order my Bum Genius and Fuzzy Bunz there your going to spend quite a bit to get started but after that you just can buy new soaker pads if needed which are usually 8.00 for a pack of 3

  • Danny T says:
If money is an issue, I'd stray away from any internet site or cloth-diaper company. Go to a charity shop (Goodwill, Salvation Army, etcetera) and buy cloth there, cut it into a diaper and use that, then wash them yourself (it's nasty, but hey it's your idea to do this).

  • Rogue Wyndwalker says:
The cheapest way to cloth diaper organically is to buy natural organic hemp prefold diapers (flat cloth) that you fasten in the front with what is called a Snappi. I tried doing this at first with my newborn because some suggested it would be easier while the umbilical cord was healing. However, it leaked HORRIBLY because, unlike other diapering options, it isn't fitted. The next most economical way to cloth diaper is to still use the prefolds, but also purchase some diaper covers to put over the prefold. The most natural, organic diaper cover is made of wool, but those can be expensive, but the plus side is that as long as the cover does not get any excrement (poop) on it, it can be reused with a different diaper (prefold) afterwards.
Fortunately, in the long run cloth diapering your baby is cheaper (and more ecologically-friendly) than using disposable diapers. (Not to mention how much gentler it seems to be on baby's skin.) I, personally, really love pocket diapers. I use Bum Genius 3.0 one-size diapers. You can use the same covers from newborn to potty-training and they are really easy to use. You can read more about them here: http://www.bumgenius.com/
They do have organic Bum Genius 3.0 one-size pocket diapers, but they are a little more expensive. (I've seen them being about more at about per diaper, and they each come with one diaper insert and a doubler.) I prefer the pocket diaper to the all-in-one because I think you can get the pocket diaper cleaner and it dries faster. Hope that answers your question!
Also, if you have any natural parenting stores in your area that sell cloth diapers, many of those same stores also offer classes on cloth diapering that will really help answer a lot of your questions. Good luck and happy diapering!

    Bum genius 3.0.
They will grow with you baby so they are useful from birth through to potty training. if you care for them properly you will only need about about a dozen of them through the child's entire diaper years. They are about each however under 0 to diaper your child for 2-3 years is a bargain.

  • jay_cce1 says:
the flat unfolded ones are the cheapest and easiest to wash and dry.
if you want info on how to fold them, let me know and i can give you websites or explain it (i use regular cloth diapers and folded them).
when i laundered my babies diapers, instead of folding them as i needed them, or in squares to store, i prefolded each one ready to go on babys bottom complete with a liner, and had them ready to go so they were just as easy to use as disposables.

What to Look for When Buying a Coffee Maker

For many people, the day doesn't officially start until that first pot is brewing. Coffee has become a mainstay of their morning routine. Coffee provides the caffeine that some people need to wake up in the morning or to get that extra boost as the day goes on, and research has shown that the antioxidants in coffee may have a variety of health benefits as well. That said, not all cups of coffee are created equal; choosing the right coffee maker can make all the difference between an outstanding cup and one that's just alright.
So how do you know that you're getting the coffee maker that will best meet your needs and serve up the coffee of your dreams? While any coffee maker may be capable of making a good cup of coffee, there are some features that you can look for to help your coffee brew right, stay fresh, and taste delicious.
Essential Features
Digital Timer - Though it's reached the point that it's almost difficult to find a coffee maker without some sort of digital timer, you should make sure that the coffee maker you choose comes equipped with a timer that features an automatic start function. Most people don't make full use of this feature, but by preparing the coffee maker the night before you can actually save time in the mornings by having your coffee start brewing just before you wake up.
Construction - Stop and take a look at the model of coffee maker that you're considering buying. See how well it's constructed, how easy it is to use, and whether the coffee pot is reinforced or is simply glass. Reinforced coffee pots act like a thermos, keeping your coffee hot and fresh for much longer.
Pause and Serve - This is one of the most useful features that your coffee maker can have if you need a pot of coffee. Instead of having to wait for the pot to finish brewing or trying to swap out your cup and the pot (and spilling coffee everywhere), the act of removing the pot closes a valve on the maker and lets you pour yourself a cup before resuming your brew.
Optional but Useful Features
Water Filter - An optional feature that's becoming more common in coffee makers, having an in-line water filter can really improve the taste of your coffee by making sure that there aren't any impurities in the water you brew with. Keep in mind that this adds a little bit of extra maintenance to your coffee maker as well… you'll need to change the filters regularly.
Variable Temperature - Even the cheapest coffee maker heats water up enough to brew with, but if you have a variable temperature gauge you can actually tweak your brewing temperature to suit your tastes. This feature isn't essential, however, so if there's a significant price difference between two coffee makers with this as the only difference, don't feel bad if you choose the one without.
Locking Lids - A useful feature that generally comes with coffee makers that use reinforced pots; a locking lid enables you to screw a lid directly onto the pot which makes it easy to take coffee to a neighbors or other destination. Locking lids are often designed so that you can't have both a basket in and a lid on; this way you won't accidentally start brewing when the pot is closed.
Other Considerations
Drip Type - Most coffee makers that you'll buy will be of the automatic drip variety… this way you don't have to do anything except fill the basket, pour in water, and start the brewing cycle. Be aware that other types of coffee makers do exist, though, including manual drip, percolators, and press pots.
Capacity - Sometimes you might only want a little coffee, and sometimes you might want a lot. Stop to think about exactly how much coffee you're likely to need, and make sure that the coffee maker that you choose can handle that amount. If you drink a lot of coffee, you don't want a small coffee maker. Look for coffee makers that feature a variable capacity, so that you can make as much or as little as you need.
Filter Type - When it comes to filters, there are 3 options that you should consider. You can find coffee makers that use the standard paper filters, metal permanent filters, and even "pods" which are pre-packaged coffee discs complete with their own filter. Metal filters generally produce a better taste and are compatible with makers that use paper filters, while pods require that the maker is specifically designed for them.
Grinder - Fresh-ground coffee tastes better, and some coffee makers have a coffee grinder built in. However, you can usually save some money by buying a separate grinder, so it's a good idea to explore that option as well.

Q&A: What is the most economical way to cloth diaper?

cloth diaper

Question by aimee_id: What is the most economical way to cloth diaper?
I'm expecting twins in a couple of months and I'm considering using cloth diapers for at least the first 4-6 months (maybe more) to cut down on diaper costs. I'm finding a lot of cloth options, but they seem fairly pricey- especially when I need everything x2. Does anyone have recommendations for good diaper systems that are on the cheaper end of things?

Best answer:

Answer by Diet C
The cheapest way to do cloth diapers is prefolds and covers.
This is a steal: http://www.cottonbabies.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=148
Also a good kit: http://www.tendercargo.com/catalog/Bummis-Cloth-Diapering-Starter-Kit.html

Give your answer to this question below!
  • MIssC says:
I have a 3 month old and recently was looking for cloth diapers. The ones that I think are the cheapest are prefolds with Bummis covers. I need about 24 prefolds with 6 small covers for my DD (it came up to approximately 0-220). I do a load of diaper laundry one a day so that they can dry in time for when I need to wash the other half. I have a couple of Thirsties covers which are essentially the same functionality as the Bummis but the Bummis are a bit sturdier. It can depend on the body shape of your babies.
I skipped the newborn size and went straight to the small (just a bit bulkier at the beginning). My DD was 8lbs though at birth. When she will weigh 16lbs, I'll go get another set of medium prefolds and covers. Still cheaper than disposable and much better for the environment. Think of all the non-biodegradable material, esp. with newborns who have to be changed 10-12 times a day, if not more!
All the best with your darlings!

  • ♥♥♥♥♥ says:
Personally I think prefolds with prowrap covers. This is what I used and still do use.

  • missbeans says:
I've actually done the math on this. We're planning for another baby, and I thought about doing cloth as a way of saving money, and for being environmentally consious.
I'm giving you numbers based on Bum Genius, which are top of the line. Personally, they seem like the easiest ones to use, so I don't mind spending a little extra....
You can buy one of them for about to . For one baby, you'd need about 20-24. For two, you'd probably need 35-40. 40 of them would be about 0. Combine laundry soap, and utility charges for washing them, you're probably looking at less than 0. If you bought Huggies, you'd pay somewhere around a package, and go through probably 2ish a week. So, that's a week for 6 months...equals 0 You are still saving money. And if you stick with the cloth diapers for a year, you're saving over 00!
So don't worry about the expense of the diapers. If you are dedicated to using them for at least 6 months, you are going to save money no matter what brand you buy...just buy the ones that will work best for your life.

  • Irritated Lactivist says:
Prefolds and covers are VERY inexpensive, but you will save tons of money no matter which type of cloth diaper you use.
I have a couple covers from Blueberry that are one-size, which is AWESOME. I highly recommend getting a few of them! Twins are likely to be smaller as you know, so some tiny newborn sized covers are a smart option. I like Thirsties covers. :)

  • adelatexas says:
I use the good old fashioned flat fold AND the prefold cloth diapers. You can also buy expensive, fancy, all-in-one, with or without liners, plus your baby's name and CV embroidered on them, but the bottom line is: you still have to change the diaper every single time it gets wet or soiled. Period. Maybe the all-in -one are easier to use and fancier, but I repeat, you still have to change them, and if you are on budget- they are expensive. You have to buy a few sizes as your baby grows, as for the flatfold/prefold- it will last you a couple of years.
If you want to save money, buy 2 dozen of prefolds and a dozen of flat folds. Gerber has some excellent diapers, birdeye cloth and other variety. I use the flat fold as liners, but they can get bulky, and use either pins or snappies to tie them. These diapers work great, keep your baby's skin breathe and dry. Watch some YouTube tutorials how some moms use pins or snappies. One cloth diaper use will cost you a forth of a cent a year ( a pack of 12 diapers= about with tax).
I do not use the covers because I have to dig in my baby's pants to find out whether she is wet or not. I guess they work well for heavy wetters- you do not want everything wet underneath your baby. Mine is not, so I am getting away without them.
I use hypo-allergenic detergent- but you do not have to if your baby handles regular one. But I would still recommend it. I use a line in my backyard for drying them- sun and wind are still free, thanks God. besides, the UV rays in the sunlight act as disinfectant agent... no bleaching needed ever.
    Hope it helps.Good luck.

cloth diaper

Question by lysistrata411: Help! Cloth diaper question- Is there somewhere online to buy the leggings that go with cloth diapers?
I remember seeing these cute little leggings somewhere before that go up to the cloth diaper and can be tucked in so that they act as pants and can show off the cute cloth diaper, too, but now I can't find them anywhere. What are these called? Where can I find them? I even searched on ebay, but come up with nothing! Please help!

What types of cloth diapers do you prefer?

Question by Astragalo: What types of cloth diapers do you prefer?
There are so many different types of cloth diapers, and I don't mean brands. I mean prefolds, pockets, AIO's, fitteds....what type do you like best and why?
I'm considering making the switch and would like to hear your experiences.
Thanks so much! And yes, I have researched diaperpin, diaperswappers, and looked at numerous websites.

I use unbleached Indian prefolds and Momma made flannels fitteds, with dritz pins. They are not the fanciest or the easiest to use, but they are the cheapest options. I put my money into cute wool covers, as they are really what you see. I have a couple All-in-Ones, but the really cute all in ones are pretty pricey.

Give your answer to this question below!
  • some chick says:
I'm a huge fan of Fuzzi Bunz. Baby's bum stays just as dry as with a disposable, and rashes are very rare. Nice trim fit, too, and you can increase absorbency for naps or nighttime by adding an extra insert (or two). But you MUST use the detergents recommended by the company, or you'll end up with nasty residue problems. (Charlie's Soap was a lifesaver for me.)
For a newborn, I prefer Kissaluvs fitted diapers with a cover. They prevent poo leaks better than anything I've ever tried. They're thick, though, so you have to be diligent about extra rinses in the wash, and they take forever in the dryer. They're also pretty bulky, which I don't like for a baby learning to sit up -- they can't bend in the middle! :)
For sheer economy, I like the good old Chinese prefolds with a cover. Very easy to wash, very cheap, very durable, very easy to use. The diapers also make great burp cloths, and when you're done using them for the baby, you can use them for dusting, staining wood (they're actually perfect for applying stain), soaking up spills, etc.
I've also used Bumkins AIOs. They're convenient, especially for a bullheaded, squirmy toddler, but sort of a pain to wash. (Lots of layers, with a waterproof layer on the outside.)

  • Snow Covered! says:
I prefer pocket diapers for day and fitted diapers with a wool cover for nights.
Pocket diapers are nice during the day because they are convenient, keep the baby feeling dry and the absorbency is easily adjustable. I stuff all my diapers immediately after washing and drying them so that they are always ready to go! I prefer to use hemp in my pocket diapers because I find it to be the most absorbent. I have some AIOs but they have cotton soaker pads in them and I find they don't hold as much. Also, yes you can add doublers on top of the AIOs but I find they bunch and move around a lot. All the absorbent layers stay neat and in place when stuffed inside a pocket diaper.
I also love how fast pocket diapers dry because they absorbent layers are separate and that you can get diapers that are "one-size."
I mostly use Baby Kanga one-size pouch diapers:
    http://www.jamtots.com/Baby-Kangas-One-Size-Pouch-Diaper-C502.aspx
And I also use bumGenius 2.0 one-size pocket diapers:
    http://www.cottonbabies.com/product_info.php?cPath=98&products_id=1279
I like bamboo fitted diapers at night because they are also super absorbent, some places say bamboo absorbs 60% more liquid than cotton! I pair them with a wool diaper cover as wool is a nice natural fabric and breathes really well to make sure the baby stays cool! My daughter sleeps 8-14 hours straight at night and she is a heavy wetter so she needs a really good night diaper! Lots of people use pocket diapers at night too, but I like the fitted diaper and wool cover better at night as it breathes more.
I use a Totsbots Bamboozle fitted diaper:
    http://www.bummis.com/en/Products/covers/Bamboozle.html
And a Sckoon wool cover over top:
    http://www.sckoon.com/er-n69a000.html

  • *Charli* says:
I used plain white towel nappies. The ones you have to fold and pin your self.
They worked fine for my twins. They are allergic to everything!!
All I did was fold them into the kite fold, and lay a liner where their bum goes. Then pin and put a plastic cover over.
Yes, made me have extra washing, but when you already wash all day, it doesn't matter.
The best feeling was hanging my beautiful white nappies out on the line. I felt so proud.
I know I need to get a life!!

Ooh, I don't think you're going to have a lot of luck finding them in a store unless you live in a huge city. I live in a pretty big one, and they don't have anything--even in the baby superstores--but the flimsy kind.
What I would recommend is checking with an online retailer and asking if you can just mail them a check or money order to pay for it. Try jardinediapers.com. I've ordered a lot of stuff there, they have a great selection and great prices, and the lady who runs the site is super nice and helpful. The Chinese DSQ prefolds I ordered there are absolutely awesome, and they have a lot of covers and other accessories at reasonable prices. Try clicking the "Contact Us" link and ask about sending a check for payment.
Another option is eBay; most sellers there will take money orders for payment, or you can pay directly out of your checking account through PayPal.
Good luck, and hope you have as nice an experience with cloth diapering as I have!

Here is a list of stores and sites in IL that sell quality cloth diapers. If I had more time I could probably come up with more. There are no big chains that sell quality cloth diapers yet, though that may happen in the near future. But there are more and more small stores popping up all over the U.S. that carry natural parenting items.

The Essential Elements Of Diaper Bags

diaper bag changing pad

The Essential Elements Of Diaper Bags

A diaper bag is one of those essentials most Moms would be lost without. As Michelle from Minneapolis stated, "One day I left the house without my diaper bag. I didn't realize I forgot it until I went to reach for it when I needed a diaper to change my baby. I ended up having to find a store and purchase diapers, baby wipes, and an outfit because the one my baby was wearing had become soiled. While I was in the store I bought a second diaper bag. I now keep that diaper bag packed and in my vehicle at all times so that I always have the essentials I need even if I'm forgetful and forget to take my main diaper bag with me when I go somewhere."
When you want to take an excursion out of your home with a small baby, there's no telling what you might need. A good diaper bag can hold everything you might need including diapers, baby wipes, diaper ointment, baby powder, clothing, bottles, food, just about anything else you might possibly need while out and about with your baby.
The most important item in a diaper bag is diapers. If you need to, you can carry up to a dozen of the thickest diapers in a diaper bag. In another large compartment of the bag you can put in several changes of clothes. Some other useful things to put in the bag are bibs, baby cups, burp cloths, washcloths, a blanket, pacifiers, toys, snacks, food (along with utensils for feeding) and baby bottles. A towel to use as an "anywhere" changing pad is another essential item. In fact, anything that you need to use on a daily basis should go into the diaper bag.  But keep in mind that all that "stuff" in your diaper bag can make it really heavy so if you are going to have to be carrying it for a long distance or are only going on a short trip, make sure to just pack the essentials.
It is a good idea to keep your diaper bag at least partially ready all the time. Some people have diapers, pacifiers, blankets, an extra set of clothes, and toys stashed away in their diaper bags permanently. .
In the past, diaper bags were little more than large plastic shoulder bags with one or two big compartments. And they weren't very attractive either. They were used because one didn't have a choice. Today that's all changed. You can find diaper bags that vary from basic, to trendy, to designer. Designer bags are very attractive and stylish, but they typically also have a large price tag too.
The simple design of some diaper bags may fool you into believing there's nothing much inside. But, you may be surprised to see some nifty features like a pullout changing pad or special pockets for keys and cell phones. Most of today's' diaper bags come with nylon linings to prevent messy spills from ruining the bag.
One of the most attractive diaper bags I've seen looks very much like a purse, and everything inside the diaper bag - changing pad, storage bag, wipes case - can come out. So, you can ultimately use it as a purse. Another one of my favorites has a non-slip grip on the strap, so the bag will not slide off when you bend to pick something up. A great feature in some bags is that they can easily be attached to a stroller with rings and clips that are included in the bag. Just be sure the diaper bag is positioned properly on the stroller so that the weight of it doesn't tip the stroller over.
Besides the cost, the only factors you have to keep in mind while purchasing the perfect diaper bag is size and comfort. The diaper bag that's perfect for your neighbor may not be the right diaper bag for you. Take time to look at several different diaper bags before making your purchase so that you get the bag that is just right for you and your baby.

Embroidery Blanket Diaper Bags sources to sale them?

Question by magali v: Embroidery Blanket Diaper Bags sources to sale them?
I have a stock of high quality boutique diaper bags for embroidery, any sources to offer/advertise them other than Ebay?

Answer by Anon
Why not try and approach a few independent baby shops and see if they would stock some of them in return for a cut of the profit. Or buy a stand at trade and craft fairs or farmers markets and sell them there?

Diaper bags are designed to hold all the things that are required to keep your baby happy and healthy during short outings or while travelling. Modern day diaper bags have many pockets which are used to store toys, diapers, baby wipes, baby powder, medicines, snacks, pacifiers and other items for baby. Moms and dads of today demand that their diaper bags be both functional and fashionable. Available in a variety of styles, from diaper bag purses to hybrid laptop diaper bags, the most popular diaper bags tend to be the stroller diaper bags, messenger diaper bags, backpack diaper bags, tote diaper bags, designer diaper bags, and eco-friendly diaper bags.
One movement in the industry is a shift to providing masculine diaper bags, or diaper dude diaper bags that are more appealing to men. Diaper dude diaper bags, like their feminine counterparts, often include exterior zippered pockets and multiple interior compartments perfect for storing bibs, food, wipes and other items. Many such bags also have exterior elasticized bottle pockets. The large inner compartments have fine quality zip-closed pockets and specially designed pouches for diapers. Some brands, like Skip Hop diaper bags, offer contemporary styling along with all the standard necessities. Based in New York City, Skip Hop is sold the world-over to discerning parents who appreciate only the finest quality products.

How do I get Balmex out of my cloth diaper doublers?

Question by Object Permanence: How do I get Balmex out of my cloth diaper doublers?
I caked Balmex on my girl last night and this morning it didn't rinse off. I tried laundry detergent, vinegar, baking soda, and scrubbing with an old toothbrush.
I'm afraid that if I put it through the wash it will hinder the absorbency of all the diapers in the load! It's fleece on the side that was Balmexed, if that makes a difference.
Any ideas?

Best answer:

Answer by Haruhi
Boil the doubler in a large pot with a bit of dish soap.

Give your answer to this question below!
  • Kelsey says:
You need to strip the doubler. Take an old toothbrush and some dish soap and scrub the doubler with the dishsoap, then wash (alone) in really hot water, repeat if necessary until the balmex is gone. Most cloth diaper companies (if not all) say not to use any diaper creams or other products with their diapers because it affects the absorbancy.

Find the Perfect Diaper Bag

snoopy diaper bag

Find the Perfect Diaper Bag

There’s nothing wrong with a cute Winnie-the-Pooh diaper bag or one with butterflies. I bought one of each. One of the first things a mommy-to-be buys is a diaper bag. It’s a crucial buy. You’ll stay in the house for the first 3 months but then you’ll want to get out to show off your baby to friends, get some fresh air, visit Grandma.
I can’t stand being at home all day. I have to go out. Now that my little one is running around, he feels the need to go out too. It’s healthy to go out, see friends, share baby stories. What often keeps me from going out is the thought of all the baby stuff I have to carry. I don’t like feeling like I’m going to the airport when I’m really only going out to lunch with friends. It’s nice having a few diaper bags that take care of every situation’s needs. If I’m just going to the grocery store, I can take my diaper tote that holds the basics: a diaper, wipes, a change of clothes, my wallet. If I go out to lunch with friends, I bring my Trend Lab messenger bag that holds all the above plus a few toys or books to keep my little one busy. Going to Grandma’s on a plane a few times a year tells me I’m going to need my jumbo jet of diaper bags from Cherish and Joy. That is an awesome bag! It feels good, looks good, and packs a load! I pack my little guy’s food, a few diapers and wipes, and tons of toys to keep him busy so the Captain can fly nonstop.
Going back to the question “Who wants a Winnie-the-Pooh diaper bag”? I do, or at least I did when my baby was still a baby. Even then, there was the day I fit back into my size 8 jeans and I just wanted to feel like a chic girl again. I wanted to carry my gorgeous Oriental bag but it was too small to carry baby’s stuff and too bulky to carry that and my diaper tote. What could I do but buy an Oriental diaper bag from I Frogee? Then there were days Daddy wanted bonding time with Junior. My cute Snoopy bag was a little better than my butterfly, but still was not manly enough. He’s a guy’s guy. What could I do but buy him a Macho Man bag? I got him a Fleurville DJ Pak with plenty of pockets and an over the chest strap so he could use both hands to grab Junior in chase or put him over his shoulders.
I am so glad diaper bags come in all shapes, styles and prices. A lot of designers are experienced parents who know what you want in a diaper bag to help you express your unique style and be organized.  They know you will want zippered pockets for dirty diapers, vinyl-lined side pockets for bottles that spill, pockets to hold easy-to-lose pacifiers. These little details are what matters if you want a hassle-free, mess-free day out with the family.

The baby is adorable; the outfit straight off the trendiest rack; the car seat is the safest money can buy…  All ready for a great outing with baby! Then you ask each other, "what about the change of clothes? What about a snack? What about diapers, and bottles, and blankets, and changing pad, and medicine, and… Thankfully the solution to all those parental worries comes in all shapes and sizes and looks genuinely chic.

Yes, it's the diaper bag. Diaper bags were once used as functioning items—they held all those necessary items. Lately, the lowly diaper bags stock has been rising, thanks in part to pregnant celebrities and parental stars. Instead of a drab old bag that screams, "I've got a snot nosed kid," there are a myriad of diaper bags that say, "I'm a parent, I've got it covered, and I look good doing it." But looks aren't everything…

On the inside, once we've ‘ooh-ed' and ‘ahh-ed' over that diaper bag-that-looks-like-a-trendy-Armani-handbag, it is evident that the simple bag has evolved. No longer is there a cavernous uni-space where your child's diaper rash cream (that exhorts "Do not ingest") rubs shoulders with your child's favorite snacks. There are pockets for diapers, pouches for wipes, places for food, nooks for phones, and crannies for mom's wallet. Lest we forget, there is also that extra handy changing pad slot for when your precious little child fills his or her drawers right at the wrong moment and wants it off NOW!

A downfall of the scientifically engineered diaper bag and all its pockets is the propensity to stockpile out of date items. You may think you have 4 extra diapers, but they won't help if they are size 2 and your child tots around in sneakers and size 6 Huggies. Other items that find semi-permanent homes are emergency outfits and blankets. Babies grow out of those outfits so quickly and blankets should be washed if they are being used on occasion. The lesson one should take from this—check diaper bags monthly for dirty laundry, stale cracker crumbs, and the occasional emergency diaper changes wrapped in those handy plastic bags.

Here are a few tips to keeping your diaper bag organized.

Leave a sealed package of wipes in the diaper bag.  Wipes kept in those travel cases will dry out. Ziploc bags work really well—the wipes will stay moist.
Snacks, snacks and more snacks. Preferably something that won't spoil—gold fish, cheerios, raisins and granola bars to name a few. Packing snacks in Tupperware containers is perfect because they won't leak and it keeps things from getting smashed around.
Disposable changing pads are great if you are in a public place.  You can just throw it away rather than inviting all kinds of germs into your diaper bag.
Always have a spare blanket on hand. They are great for the late night sleepy drive home or when baby has made an emergency mess. They are also great when you need to prop something up, keep the sun out or wipe up a bottle leak.  It's amazing how many uses you can find for a simple cotton blanket.
Keep an extra pacifier in your diaper bag.  Ziplocs or pacifier pods are great for keeping the lint away. Also consider some Tylenol, rash cream, sunscreen, hand sanitizer and a few plastic bags. You don't want to put dirty diapers or dirty clothes directly into your perfectly organized diaper bag.

You may look trendy to others judging your diaper bag.  What matters more is how you feel when this stylish accessory contains everything you need to feel like a prepared and organized parent.

I want to buy a used brand diaper bag... Do you have one that you don't need anymore?

Question by YezY: I want to buy a used brand diaper bag... Do you have one that you don't need anymore?
I need it big, cute, clean, cheap for a girl. White, pink or chocolate color. It has to be in very good conditions, no stains, no tears. And cheap. And cute.
Send me pictures and measurements and price and shipping.

This is yahoo answers, not a place where people buy and sell stuff.
Have you thought about looking on ebay/gumtree/your local paper for the thing you want.

  • Sara says:
Check Craigslist or Ebay. Also know you're the one carrying the diaper bag so you might want a color that reflects your style more than matching the baby gear. And white gets dirty.
